Inspiring young Queenslanders to work and find success in the tourism industry

Sam Jarmy

Tourism has always been Sam’s passion and it’s given him the opportunity to travel the world, work in amazing places and meet people from all walks of life.

Sam’s interest in forging a career in tourism was ignited at 16, when he volunteered in Thailand for a year to undertake community relief work. He undertook studies in outdoor recreation which kicked off a successful career in adventure tourism.

In 2013, Sam joined P&O Cruises as an adventure instructor and was also part of the construction of the adventure park at sea for five ships. In this role, Sam ran a wide range of action-packed activities such as abseiling, laser tag, rock climbing, bridge roof walk and flying fox, all while cruising around the Pacific Islands.

While working in tourism, Sam started his own company to learn more about business and transferred those skills and knowledge into his tourism career. Sam is now the Managing Director of Riverlife Adventure & Event Centre, delivering a range of outdoor experiences including kayaking, abseiling, rock climbing and adventure ranger camps, as well as providing a range of waterfront venues for functions and events. Sam loves working in tourism as it’s one of the few industries where people are focused on being happy and enjoying the experience.
