Inspiring young Queenslanders to work and find success in the tourism industry

Rachel Lane

Southern Queensland Country

Rachel's tourism passion is founded on building community engagement and increased visitation to areas based on sustainable tourism principles.

She studied a Bachelor of Business (Tourism, Hospitality, and Management), whilst gaining experience in cafes and restaurants across New South Wales and Victoria.

In 2021, Rachel became Food and Beverage Supervisor at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Terrigal. She managed the food and beverage department, handling events like conferences and weddings.

While studying a Masters of International Sustainable Tourism Management at Monash University, Rachel interned in Estonia. There, she researched tourism demographics for the Estonian Tourism Board and Study in Estonia. This taught her to work in diverse settings with language challenges, requiring community engagement and client management.

Returning to Australia in early 2023, Rachel moved to Queensland to work with the Lockyer Valley Regional Council as Tourism and Events Officer. Her job involves organising the Council’s special events program, with a focus on boosting tourism to the region.
