Inspiring young Queenslanders to work and find success in the tourism industry

Julia Wardle

Brisbane

While studying Business Management and International Hotel and Tourism Management at the University of Queensland, Julia’s tourism career took off when she secured a job as a receptionist at a resort on the Gold Coast. She grew into a sales coordinator role that focused on the marketing and sales of six luxury apartment buildings. She also helped open two Gold Coast resorts, including developing campaigns, managing social media and website development.

In 2019, Julia embarked on a working holiday to Canada and, during the ski season, had a variety of guest services roles in a bar/restaurant. Returning to Australia in 2020, Julia joined the Emporium Hotel South Bank. She first worked as a receptionist, assisting guests and liaising across the hotel’s departments and reservation companies, before becoming the executive coordinator to the general manager.

Julia is now the business development manager at Emporium Hotels where she manages accounts, establishes new business clients, and visits new and existing clients to educate them on the hotel's service offerings. She also promotes wider tourism experiences available across Queensland at domestic and international industry trade shows.
